Books for Bibliophiles who love Bookstores
The only thing a true bibliophile loves more than books is book stores. For that reason I could not help but create a list of books for bibliophiles who love bookstores. There are many out there, but here are a few of my favorites. Bonus points, find one at your local bookstore, and see if anything magical happens when you walk inside:
Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan
This book is about a clerk who loses his job and the only job he can get is in a 24 hour bookstore who has some of the most interesting patrons. When he starts to dive into who these individuals are, things escalate quickly into quite a tale.
If Robing Sloan’s story captivated you, you should check out his other work Sourdough which we introduced here: Fictional Bread Books You ‘Knead’ to Read – Wish You Would Have
Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George
If bookstore in Paris doesn’t already grab your attention, think of this; the bookseller is a literary savant who can prescribe the perfect curative book for whatever ails you. The only problem is, can he help cure himself.
The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman
Bookworm Nina has three passions, the bookstore that she works in, her alone time to read, and her trivia team. The three become complicated when her rival gets too close for comfort. For anyone who believes there are never too many books, just not enough bookshelves, this book is for you!
The Storied Life of A.J. Firky by Gabrielle Zevin
Bookstore owner whose life is simple and uncomplicated, if not monotonous. His life is turned upside down when one of his customers accidently leaves him with her proudest possession. This books twists and turns will walk you through a life both simple and complex.
If you love this book, you should check out her other, Young Jane Young which we introduced here: Fictional Election Books to get you through this season – Wish You Would Have
The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan
Nina loses her position at the library she loves, but not her passion for matching those who need it the most with a good book. In her quest to find herself and follow her passion, it leads her to the most unexpected places.
UPDATE 11/02/2020
I just finished another great one for this list, so I had to share it right away.
The Lost for Words Bookshop by Stephanie Butland
This book follows Loveday, a rather prickly character with a sorted past as she tries to navigate the emotions she unpacks when she makes a small find in the bookshop in which she works. Will her past prevent her from finding happiness in the future, or will she always remain the girl who is lost for words despite the safety net of them she has created around herself of them. It will make you laugh and cry, and it will make you want more, and just when you think you have it figured out, you will be twisted again. Great read start to finish!
Check these books out and let me know if I missed any, and what you think!
