Dear Edward- Quick Peak

Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano

Summary: The story follows the passengers aboard a plane which is going to crash. Simultaneously it follows the life of the boy who is the soul survivor of the crash, and what happens to him in the aftermath.

Hook: What would it feel like to be the soul survivor of a mass tragic event.
Important Aspects: Public events do not necessarily mean private people want to live public lives.

Conclusion: It takes more strength than luck to survive.

Similar Books:
I could draw similarities to The Goldfinch in being the lone survivor and what that does to a person long term

If you like this read that:
Educated, while the storylines are vastly different, both exhibit how humans can be more resilient than they ever imagined

If you read this do this: Visit your local 9/11 memorial

Rating:
4/5

Praise: I really liked both the look back at the lives on the plane and the look forward into Edward’s life. It was perfectly juxtaposed to keep you engaged and add to the depth of the story.

Critique:
You wanted to know more, but in life, as with the lives of those on the plane, you can’t always get the closure

Where I read: Listened while completing spring cleaning

Where you should read:
Laying in the grass looking up at the sky

Book or audio book:
Audiobook

Reader critique/ font critique: The reader’s voice was soothing enough to not scare you with the events, but not too soothing to make you sleepy as you listen.

Why you should read it:
It is such a fascinating story

Why is it special:
It’s true, partially! In 2010 in Africa there was a Dutch boy who was the lone survivor of a plane crash too.

What do you need to know if you didn’t read it: Just because you had something infamous happen to you doesn’t mean you are ready for the fame.

What should you take away/remember?: People are much more resilient than they could ever imagine and fighting battles you may never understand
