Fictional Election Books to get you through this season

Phew, with one more day left to go, but with still no end in sight, I need some relief, and figured you might as well. With the election weighing heavily on so many minds, I thought it may be worth it to include a small list of fictional books about elections that could provide an escape for your worries without dodging the elephant in the room. Here are a few books that keep you on topic without the stress of reality. All of these I would recommend even if it were not election season for the stories are well developed and expertly told!

Young Jane Young by Gabrielle Zevin

Young Jane Young is a smart novel that follows what happens to three generations of women in a family after a young intern gets caught up with her Senator boss. Even more cunning and clever are the supporting characters, a rich benefactor, the scorned supportive wife, and the soon to be bride of a political hopeful. This books is filled with strong women who work to get what they want all while three different elections take place, affecting all outcomes.

The Hopefuls by Jennifer Close

The Hopefuls by Jennifer Close

Although this book is heavily in the political scene and the plot follows two vastly different couples through two vastly different election seasons; this books is more about the relationships we create with those around us and how politics can change them. I love Jennifer Close’s prose as I feel she is one of the authors who can best capture a moment in time, especially for my generation. While not everyone agrees politically with the author or the character’s positions, you cannot help being drawn into the feeling and think of how it so closely ties to your world, as if she took a snapshot of your own life.

Tiny Little Thing By Beatriz Williams

Tiny Little Thing By Beatriz William

Perhaps you would like to be taken back in time , well this books draws from the Kennedy-esk feeling. Tiny is a politician’s wife who is trying to help her husband fulfill his destiny all while protecting her past secrets. When she stumbles upon what she thinks is a huge scandal for her husband, she must deny her feelings, and choose between her love and his interests. This is a love story that will stay with you. It is also part of a larger series of Schuyler Sisters Books Beatriz Williams has written, the original three of which are just masterfully written. I highly recommend this one and the other two, you will not be disappointed. All three love stories are beautifully written page turners that will keep you in suspense to the very end. The plots and characters shine so bright, you want more and more.

So tell us, which books are helping you keep it together during this trying time? We love to hear from you!
